Where I come from KLM is one of the most valued and ”fancy” airlines. We would compare KLM to Emirates or Qatar; but is it really worth the hype or the price?
I’ve had great experiences flying with KLM and I definitely think that the experience is great. However, I think that the KLM prices have gone up a little too much the past few years; so I haven’t recently booked with them. Considering the amount of time I fly, here is a couple of points to consider.
My experience
KLM has a user friendly website, it is simple and easy to book your flights within minutes.
They are also a part of the SkyTeam alliance which you can use to your benefit if you fly routinely, for example Air France, Delta and Air China are a part of this program. They also have their own Flying Blue program for points on KLM flights.
I flew KLM to the US from Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The nice thing about flying KLM to the US, is that you are able to leave very early in the morning and arrive at night in the US; meaning that your routine isn’t interrupted if you are a heavy sleeper like me.
I haven’t flown KLM for a few years now and that is due to high pricing. KLM has some of the highest prices in Europe, though most of the nicest experience have come from KLM.
In flight comfort
When I flew with KLM, I was seated in the economy which is standard on any other airline. We had a TV screen to watch movies and play games, as well as pillows and blanket for those who needed sleep. The quality of the pillows and blankets was top quality. Compared to other website I was suprise by the quality of product they offered
I also believe that KLM is the only airline that has given me 3 meals during the duration of the flight. We departed around lunchtime from Amsterdam (the flight time was about 11,5h) so when leaving they served lunch, which you were able to choose between fish or chicken, in the middle of the flight they serve a small snack meal, which was fruits, salad and a piece of bread. Then a few hours before descending into our destination, they also served dinner since the time at our destination was evening. Once again you were able to choose, between pasta or chicken.
When missing a connection
I actually was unlucky enough to hit some bad weather in Seattle when flying home, we ended up leaving late because of snow that resulted in missing my connecting flight in Amsterdam. However, I was very pleased with the help I received at the airport. When landing I only had 20 minutes until my next flight was schedule to depart, I immediately asked the desk where to go and they kindly replied ”don’t even try, you won’t make it” they assured me that I shouldn’t worry I will be on the next flight out in about 4 hours.
Just for the inconvenience they provided me with:
– a meal card
– phone card
– WiFi access card
– 50€ voucher for my next flight on KLM
I think this was extremely generous.
Fly anywhere with KLM
The nice part about KLM is that you can fly just about anywhere in the world with this airline. They often have good deals to different parts of the world, right now in May 2018 they are advertising flights to Africa which go for about 500€.
If I had the option with pricing, I would choose KLM for long distant flights.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed flying with KLM, I have flown with them a few times and I don’t really have any concerns while flying with them. When I missed my connecting flight, they were able to secure my luggage, and offered a meal card with paid expenses.
Besides that one time the flights have always been on time, flying with them has been pleasant. I would definitely book with KLM again, if flights are at reasonable price.
